Coyotes Add F Stempniak on Busy Deadline Day
The Phoenix Coyotes concluded a busy NHL trade deadline day by acquiring its fourth player, Toronto forward Lee Stempniak for a fourth and sixth round pick.
Stempniak is 14-16-30 and a -15 on the season, while failing to live up to expectations while playing a major role in Toronto. Of his 30 points, seven came in two games and he only has three points in his last 13 games.
He had a career-high 27 goals in 2006-07 but has 27 goals in 154 games since then.
The 27-year-old Stempniak will be joining his third team in five NHL seasons. The Buffalo, NY., native was drafted in the fifth round (148th overall) by the St. Louis Blues in 2003.
Stempniak will be an unrestricted free agent this summer.
In all the Coyotes added defensemen Derek Morris and Mathieu Schneider and forwards Wojtek Wolski and Stempniak. They moved Peter Mueller, Kevin Porter a minor league defenseman, two fourth round picks, a conditional sixth and a seventh.
