29 December 2009 No Comment

The Phoenix Coyotes continue to show they are among the best teams in the NHL despite losing 3-2 in a shootout to the first-place San Jose Sharks at HP Pavilion Monday night.

Despite the defeat, Phoenix (24-14-3) has lost only once in regulation in its last 14 games and sit in second-place in the Pacific Division.

The game featured a tremendous battle between the two goaltenders for the Russian Olympic team, Evgeni Nabokov (31 saves) for San Jose and the Coyotes netminder Ilya Bryzgalov (35 saves).

San Jose owned a 2-0 lead before Phoenix struck back for a pair in the second period to tie the game.

Shane Doan and Matthew Lombardi scored for the Coyotes, who saw their three-game winning streak come to an end.

Phoenix returns to the ice Tuesday night when they host the Vancouver Canucks to open a three-game home stand.
